THE NEGATIVE EFFECT OF NOLLYWOOD YORUBA MOVIES.

I really think its time to talk about this;being that this industry have over 15 millions viewers and it's deficiencies should really be scrutinised
Nollywood Yoruba Movies promote superstition in the society.Should I say this is the sole aim of these movies? I have seen over 2000 Yoruba movies in the last 10 years and I can deducts that the aim is to promote superstition under the pretense of reality.Right now as I am typing, there is no evidence that witches and wizards cause sickness and disease. It is in this movies that this happens which makes alot of people visit herbalist places to cure diseases instead of hospitals.Yes...thats what Yoruba Movies does to people.I even saw one that preached that sleep can get angry and come back to haunt people.Right now as I am typing, there is no evidence that sheep can actually think and talk like humans.Promoting dogmatism everywhere.
Nollywood Yoruba Movies also discredit the medical profession. It is common in these movies that madness and diseases are caused by supernatural powers.James Randi tried to give away 1m dollars for years to anyone who can prove that he has paranormal powers. It is even more annoying that the movies portray this fiction like they are the truth.it is not as true as Harry Potter. They are works of fiction. It's doesn't end there.Yoruba movies show medical doctors advising patient to visit herbalists and native doctors or churches or an 'alfa' in order to seek supernatural solution to diseases.Again, there is no evidence that demons or any form of supernaturalistic power causes disease or
sickness. This tells us that doctors do not necessarily follow the Hippocratic oath(I hope medical doctors and students have something to say about this).A plain insult to the medical profession for incompetence
These movies promote foul languages and rich interpretation of beautiful Yoruba proverbs. When I was a kid,I believed that the proverb "eni a n wa lo,ona la n ko" which can be roughly translated into "whom we are meant to visit,we met on the road" is "whom we meant to visit,we beat on the head".This is the extent of deliberate misuse in the name of comedy and farce. This is but a simple example of how they are misleading the populace about the actual meaning of proverbs(I know that most viewers have experiences about this).
It is in Yoruba movies that thieves are actually graduate and every students with a weird hairstyle are cultists.Even when you wear crazy jeans and use good perfume, you must be a cultist. That is why some of us who grew up in an illiterates environment are usually viewed as cultists whenever we return home from school. This is simple,as soon as we return,we have become a different being,we have become more exposed and more mature. But Yoruba movies won't make people realise this, they write these movies in such a way that you think going to school is about becoming a cultist.it is even more ridiculous that the writers do not know cultism is not rampant in Nigerian Univerities as its was 10-20 years ago.Feeding the populace with rubbish.
As much as I respect professionals trying to make money and progress in chosen careers,it's should not be as the expense of the populace or the audience. My advise is that movie writers and directors should do their research very well before going on screen to sell lies as reality.
