Ex- governor Sule Lamido arrested in Kano

The Nigerian Police Force on Sunday arrested the immediate past governor of Jigawa State Sule Lamido in Kano state.

The reason for the arrest is still not clear as there are conflicting reports on it.

Lamido was arrested at his Sharada Kano home on Sunday, April 30 morning and taken away to the Zone One Command of the Nigeria Police in Kano.

However, the Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner Of Police, Jimoh Moshood, told newsmen that Lamido responded to the invitation of the police.

It was gathered that there are about six vehicles of the former governor containing his aides waiting for his release at the station at about 2pm on Sunday.

Sule Lamido recently said that President Muhammadu Buhari is not really fighting the war against corruption because he is corrupt himself.

Lamido told BBC Hausa Service that Buhari “equally corrupt when he served under the late Head of State Sani Abacha” and his present anti-corruption war is just ‘noise’.

Mr Lamido was a foreign minister between 1999 and 2003. He was elected governor of Jigawa State in April 2007.

In 2015 he and his sons were put on trial for embezzling state fund by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
