Daily Times rebrands, unfolds smart paper, others

The management of Folio Communications Plc has announced series of innovations aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s foremost media brand, The Daily Times Newspaper.
According to a press statement released on Tuesday and signed by the Managing Editor Bonaventure Melah, the new products include a 24-page Daily Times Newspaper that is compact and smart. He said the smart paper was designed with the purpose of meeting the educative and entertainment needs of a new target audience of young, upwardly mobile people who are bored with traditional content as well as its commitment to digital and online followers of the brand.
“The chairman of Folio Communications Plc (Folio), publishers of Daily Times, Mr. Fidelis Anosike and the management of the organisation on Monday approved the rollout of series of innovations including the publication of a smart and compact Daily Times newspaper that is already at newsstands this morning. There is also the 32-page and 48 page Daily Times to be published interchangeably as the market demands. The cover price of all the Daily Times products, 24-page, 32-page and 48-page will henceforth be N100 flat,” the statement said.
Folio said the decision to rebrand Daily Times was made in order to give its publics the best of journalism with content that is concise, short and simple and therefore exciting to readers as well as indentify with the economic realities which has affected the purchasing powers of the average citizen.
“The introduction of compact and smart Daily Times newspaper is the outcome of deliberate and painstaking research aimed at retaining the loyalty of existing publics as well as drawing the interest of a new set of audience mainly young people unto newspaper reading. The content of the compact and smart Daily Times newspapers are purely analytical and development oriented.
“Apart from core news, features, analysis, opinion and others, the Daily Times smart papers will through their various sections provide platforms for interaction on IT, small and medium enterprises (SMES), agribusiness and e-commerce among others areas that would excite young people.,” it said and assured its publics of uninterrupted daily publications of their choice news sources.
“The decision to fix the cover price of the papers at N100 only was borne out of the need to give access to the average citizen who is facing very harsh economic realities; and almost every Nigerian with exception of a few is now on the average level on the economic indices as purchasing powers have reduced.
''We also want to assure fans and readers of Daily Times that your darling brand will continue to be at the newsstands, everyday. No amount of distraction can derail the focus of management in ensuring that Daily Times returns to its enviable No.1 position in Nigeria. To that end, arrangements have been concluded for a steady increase in copy prints with a target of 100,000 copies daily by the end of 2018,” the statement concluded.
