Furniture maker in court for defrauding customer of N100,000

A 38- year- old furniture maker , Mohammed Ibrahim , who allegedly defrauded his customer of N100 , 000 , on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates ’ Court .
The accused was, however , granted bail in the sum of N50 , 000 with two sureties in like sum after he pleaded not guilty .
Ibrahim , who resides at No . 14 , Akiode St. , Olawumi Oke - Ira , Ogba , Lagos, is being tried for stealing and obtaining money under false pretences.
The accused, according to Police Prosecutor Abiola Olawale , committed the offences on Jan . 26 at No . 4 , Oyinola
St . , Oke- Ira , Ogba in Ikeja area.
Olawale said Mr Olarenwaju Adams , the complainant , gave the furniture maker N100 , 000 to construct a set of chairs for him .
“Ibrahim failed to produce the chairs as agreed ; instead , he converted the money to personal use . ”
The offences breached Sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State , 2015 .
The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN ) reports that Section 287 stipulates three years jail term for stealing , while Section 314 prescribes 15 years for obtaining money by false pretences.
The Magistrate , Mr W . A . Salami , in his ruling , granted the accused bail in the sum of N50 , 000 with two sureties in like sum .
The sureties should show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government as part of the bail condition, she said .
The case was adjourned until July 27.
