2017 Budget: Saraki, Dogara Succumb To Presidency

The leadership of the National Assembly has resolved to give the 2017 budget a priority as the National Assembly resumes after Eater break.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Publicity, Abdulrazak Namdas made this known on Tuesday, adding that the leadership of the National Assembly had met with the executive and agreed to streamline the budget.

According to him, the budget will be streamlined to tally with the priority projects of the executive.

He stated that the agreement was reached when the executive led by Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and the leadership of the National Assembly led by Senate President, Bukola Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara.

“We want to ensure that in a few weeks, the budget will be passed. “I can tell you that during the Easter break, the leadership of the National Assembly met with the Executive on this issue,” he said.

He explained that he was sure that the executive would not have any problem than to implement the budget after it would have been passed by the parliament.

According to him, the passage will run concurrently between the two chambers to make it faster.

“Any bill that is passed by the Senate must be given concurrence by the House and vice-versa,” he said.

He stated that the lawmakers would work harder to ensure that the budget provides adequately for good governance.
