Contrary to earlier reports that former Nigeria president Goodluck Jonathanwas invited to attend the inauguration of Donald Trump as the 45th president of the United States of America on Friday, January 20, the former leader was actually in Otta, Ogun state.
Pictures that emerged on Friday showed Jonathan playing local Yoruba game ‘Ayo Olopon’ with another ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo reportedly at the latter’s residence in Otta.
The Punch reports that after the meeting with Obasanjo, the former took Jonathan on a tour of his place.
Further reports have it that also present at the meeting was former governor of Osun state Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and a couple of other prominent politicians.
Jonathan refused to speak with media after the meeting but Obasanjo made a little speech.
Obasanjo said: “I want to say that we have it, Nigeria is a good country and we must never be tired of lifting the country up to the height that God has created it to be.
"And God did not make a mistake when he put all of us together and if He doesn’t want us to be together no power in the world will have made us come together.”
Recall that report emerged on Thursday, January 19 that Donald Trump had invited Jonathan to his inauguration in the US on Friday.
Indeed, further reports earlier today, January 20 claimed that Jonathan had arrived in the United States.
These pictures however show that was probably not the case.
The man who started the rumour, Deji Adeyanju had a great laugh at the expense of Nigerians on Friday on the same twitter handle with which he shared the false information on Thursday.
He tweeted after the above pictures emerged:
