Uyo church collapse: Pastor ignored order to stop construction

Pastor Akan Weeks of the Reigners Bible Church International has been accused of contributing to the recent collapse of the church’s auditorium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.
Leadership reports that Weeks became culpable after he refused to stop work on construction works on the auditorium after being warned by authorities.
Weeks had reportedly received a ‘stop work’ order from the Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA) when the auditorium was at foundation level but ignored the directive.

The pastor said the agency was not honoured with documents regarding the relevant documents relating to the building for assessment, professional advice, supervision and approval.

The stop order was presented to the church in 2014 by men of the UCCDA who visited the premises as the construction went on.

Recall that several people died on Sunday, December 11 when the Reigners Bible Church International collapsed.

Akwa Ibom state governor, Emmanuel Udom, who was visiting the church escaped death by the whiskers.
